The magic starts at the source.
Our process begins with the careful selection of clay bricks from the mythical valleys around Fez, where the soil is steeped in age-old tradition and quality.
The power of water and sun.
The clay bricks are soaked in water and kneaded by hand, an age-old ritual that brings the clay to life. The clay is then placed in the Moroccan sun to dry naturally.
Forming a solid foundation.
Once the clay is firm enough, each piece is individually flattened to ensure an even structure, ready for the next step.
The first design.
The smooth clay is precisely cut into rectangular shapes, with each tile retaining its unique character. The tiles are then dried again in the sun to further develop their strength.
The first contact with fire.
The tiles undergo their first firing process at 1200 °C. This intense heat strengthens the clay and lays the foundation for their durability and timeless beauty.
Fine finish.
After baking, the largest imperfections are carefully removed, revealing the natural charm and authenticity of each tile.
A palette without limits.
Each tile is hand-coloured in the desired shade. At Atelier Marhaban, almost all colours are possible, allowing creativity and personal preferences to flourish.
be brought to life.
The play of fire and color.
During the second firing process a beautiful enamel is created. The natural fire creates subtle colour shades that make each piece unique.
Shaped by tradition.
Finally, the tiles are cut to size with authentic tools, a craft that has been passed down for centuries. Whether it is a classic square or a bold, unique shape, at Atelier Marhaban the possibilities are endless.
